Things got a bit awkward for Taylor Swift during the Super Bowl game last night and Donald Trump didn’t waste a second when he saw the opportunity to rub her nose in it.
Both Trump and Swift were in attendance at the Super Bowl LIX between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles last night and, surprisingly, both of them were rooting for the same team.
Taylor’s attendance at any football game, where she goes to support her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, has long been steeped in controversy, as a non-insignificant percentage of NFL supporters have felt that she gets too much attention and takes away from the point of the sport.
Last night, when she was very briefly shown on the jumbotron, the billionaire pop star was met with a round of rather awkward boos and jeers from the stadium, leading to an equally awkward facial expression from Swift that has since gone viral across social media.
Trump, a noted Swift-hater, capitalized on this moment as he took to his Truth Social echo chamber to claim that Taylor Swift was “booed out of the stadium” — which isn’t true at all, as camera footage has proven that Swift remained in attendance at the game long after this awkward moment.
Trump went on to add that “MAGA is very unforgiving!” — a pointed reference to Swift’s public support of Kamala Harris and her overall anti-Trump, anti-Republican stance.
“The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!” the president’s full Truth Social post reads.
Trump’s dig at the Chiefs is a bit ironic in itself, considering he had predicted their win earlier in the evening, during his pre-Super Bowl interview with Fox News, only for the Chiefs to lose pretty brutally to the Eagles.
The president further amplified the awkward reception of Swift’s appearance when he reposted a video that compared the applause he received against the boos she got. However, that video unsurprisingly made no mention of the mixed reviews he actually got from the stadium upon his arrival.
