Breaking new reporting from CBS News has confirmed that the sprawling classified documents case against Donald Trump’s co-defendants, Walt Nauta and former Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos de Oliveira, has been formally dropped by the court.
The US Department of Justice recently submitted a request to have the case dropped by the courts. That request was granted in full this morning.
“This appeal is dismissed,” the court’s order reads.
Donald Trump, along with his aides, were formally indicted under the Biden Administration Justice Department after the FBI raided Trump’s Mar-a-Lago golf resort and post-White House home, where they discovered a trove of classified government documents that he had stolen from the White House at the end of his presidential term and then refused to return to the US federal government.
That indictment was brought against Trump and his cohorts by Garland-appointed Special Counsel Jack Smith. Upon his resignation following Trump’s 2024 election victory, Smith requested that the infamous classified documents case be dismissed without prejudice — a move that meant the case could be brought against Trump and his co-defendants again in the future.
In their report, CBS recalls that Nauta and de Oliveira were accused “of working with Mr. Trump to conceal information from the Justice Department.”
All three co-defendants pleaded not guilty in the classified documents case.
This formal dismissal of the infamous classified documents case brings an end to the last remaining case stemming from former Special Counsel Jack Smith’s extensive investigations into Donald Trump.
