The head of the New York University College Republicans is now looking for a new day job after multiple reports confirmed that she has resigned from the position following a rather pointed public comment she made about the youngest First Son, Barron Trump.
Barron infamously graduated from his prestigious private high school last year and is now attending New York University as a freshman. Last week, the now-former President of NYU’s College Republicans, Kaya Walker, told Vanity Fair that Donald Trump’s youngest son was “sort of like an oddity on campus,” going on to add that Barron “goes to class, he goes home.” She also told the magazine that one of her professors allegedly cracked a joke about the First Son, saying that Barron “doesn’t really belong here” — a reference to NYU’s historically liberal community.
Walker’s remarks quickly went viral, prompting the College Republicans of America to release a public statement earlier this week, in which they blasted the viral media coverage of Walker’s remarks but also made sure they condemned Walker herself, calling her remarks “inappropriate” and noting that they do “not align with the values and principles upheld by our organization.”
New York Post reported that Walker was ultimately “forced” to resign from her position as president of the College Republicans organization.
In their statement, the group confirmed, “We are collaborating closely with the NYU chapter to ensure a smooth transition in leadership. Our goal is to reaffirm CRA’s dedication to the ideals of the Republican Party and conservative movement in a manner that reflects honorably upon our organization and its mission.”
The group infamously endorsed Donald Trump in January 2024, just ahead of the primaries, in a move that they said broke with “100 years of precedent.”
“Our support for President Trump is, and has been, a pillar of our organization,” the group said in their statement.
Walker has yet to speak publicly regarding her comments, the subsequent controversy, or her resignation from the organization.
However, the group itself has responded to the media scandal by confirming that they have extended a formal invitation to the president’s son to join College Republicans.
CRA President Will Donahue released a statement regarding the formal invitation that reads more like a desperate apology: “Barron Trump represents the future of the conservative movement, and we would be honored to have him join College Republicans of America. Strong leadership is built on resilience, courage, and the humility to rise above petty hostility – qualities that Barron has already demonstrated. We invite Barron to join us in shaping the future of our party.”
Kaya Walker wasn’t the only fellow NYU classmate to be quoted on the topic of Barron Trump in Vanity Fair’s new article.
One NYU student who spoke with the magazine recalled asking Barron to play basketball. The student said Barron seemed interested, but he was led to believe that Barron “wasn’t really allowed to do stuff,” citing the Secret Service agents that were wearing street clothes but constantly flanked nearby the First Son.
