According to one former Republican House Rep., his former GOP colleagues who are still in Congress are quickly becoming “overwhelmed” by the onslaught of furious calls flooding in from their constituents as a result of the slash-and-burn funding and employee cuts being implemented throughout the US federal government by President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk.
This revelation came from former Pennsylvania House Republican Charlie Dent during a recent appearance on MSNBC, where he said that GOPers in Congress are being regularly confronted by their voters in angry calls and emails.
With Trump preparing to deliver his State of the Union address tonight, one MSNBC political analyst wondered if the president will broach the topic of Musk, his unelected Department of Government Efficiancy, and their no-holds-barred cuts throughout the federal government.
Dent said doing so would be a horrible idea.
“As a political matter, I don’t think it makes a whole lot of sense to be highlighting Elon Musk, given that his numbers are much lower than the president’s,” the former GOP House Rep. said. “And from what I’m picking up — the intelligence I’m getting from a lot of congressional Republican offices, many of the calls and complaints they’re receiving — and they are overwhelmed with complaints — are about Elon Musk and DOGE and access to Social Security numbers to the Treasury.”
Musk’s DOGE team was not elected, nor was it established or confirmed by congressional legislation, but rather through a shady and underhanded executive order straight from Donald Trump’s desk.
“I mean, so Elon Musk has become, I think, quite a liability for Republicans,” Dent goes on to add. “So, highlighting him makes absolutely no sense to me. And you know, if the Democrats are smart, they’re just going to keep focusing on economics and inflation or they’re going to talk about Elon Musk and DOGE and the national security situation, and then clam up.”
