In case you missed it, President Donald Trump was caught on a hot mic following his State of the Union address to Congress, saying something rather suspicious to Conservative Supreme Court Justice John Roberts — and now it seems that Donald is desperately scrambling to do damage control and explain away the statement he made.
Media outlets across the nation almost instantly picked up reporting on Donald Trump’s exchange with Chief Justice Roberts, in which the president can be heard saying to the Supreme Court judge, “Thank you again. Thank you again. Won’t forget it,” as he gave Roberts an overly chummy pat on the arm.
While we didn’t have immediate answers as to what Trump was specifically referencing in this exchange, critics, experts, and American voters were quick to speculate that the president was offering Roberts a belated thanks for the conservative-majority SCOTUS decision that ultimately granted him wide-range immunity that covered Donald for just short of all of his various crimes and trangressions.
As the media coverage of the exchange spread far and wide, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to offer up a supposed explanation for his suspicious exchange with Justice Roberts, in his trademark shouty-caps form, ultimately referring to the reporters who covered it as “sleazebags.”
“The Fake ‘Play the Ref’ News, in order to create a divide between me and our great U.S. Supreme Court, heard me say last night, loudly and openly as I was walking past the Justices on the way to the podium, ‘thank you,’ to Chief Justice John Roberts,” Trump raged in his Truth Social post.
“Like most people, I don’t watch Fake News CNN or MSDNC, but I understand they are going ‘crazy’ asking what is it that I was thanking Justice Roberts for? They never called my office to ask, of course, but if they had I would have told these sleazebag ‘journalists’ that I thanked him for SWEARING ME IN ON INAUGURATION DAY, AND DOING A REALLY GOOD JOB IN SO DOING!”
“The Fake News never quits!” he snapped in conclusion.
