MSNBC’s entire panel of “The Weekend” along with millions of Americans were left appalled and absolutely disgusted after comments about January 6th and the 2021 attempt to overthrow the election made by President-elect Donald Trump at a mysteriously secretive Mar-a-Lago celebration over the weekend were leaked to the public.
This past weekend, Donald Trump held what appears to have been a celebratory event at his Palm Beach resort to mark the anniversary of the horrendous, historical, and deadly attack against the United States Capitol on January 6th, 2021.
The event was cloaked in secrecy, as the press was excluded from attendance and the event went markedly unadvertised in the days leading up.
However, in spite of the secrecy and the lack of media presence, comments made by the former president-turned-president-elect were leaked to the American public, in which Donald Trump openly praised infamous attorney John Easton, as clips played throughout Mar-a-Lago showing Eastman’s attempts to convince then-Vice President Mike Pence to refuse to certify Donald Trump’s loss in the 2020 presidential election.
“I’m a big fan of John Eastman,” Trump reportedly told guests at the exclusive event over the weekend. “Y’know, he was right. He happened to be right. That’s why they changed the law and nobody wants to talk about that…They said he’s not allowed to do it, he’s not allowed to do it, and they convinced him he’s not allowed to do it –– our vice president –– then right after the election they changed the law so he can’t do it.”
Co-host of MSNBC’s “The Weekend,” Michael Steele, asked, “What was the sense in this room, what was the purpose of this gathering, is it just an in-your-face-moment or just a tale of things to come?”
“Right, let’s be very clear,” NBC News’ Vaughan Hilyard responded. “There’s no coincidence that this event in which he welcomed not only John Eastman, but Michael Flynn, and Jeffrey Clark, the man that urged the DOJ to put off all statements about the 2020 election, and they were up onstage, Rudy Giuliani was up onstage, and Peter Navarro, who spent time in prison for not complying with the subpoena from the January 6th committee, and they were watching a film that was a documentary about John Eastman.”
Co-host Symone Sanders Townsend had a much more visceral reaction.
“Let’s just say –– let’s just put a finer point on it, this is sickening!” she shouted in the segment. “This is sickening, I am sick. Peter Navarro, Jeffrey Clark, the people that went to the Capitol to take up arms against the United States government, because the president at the time lied to them, that’s what happened.”
“Those are not patriots,” Townsend continued. “What Donald Trump did last night is a disgrace to the country and Constitution, and the fact that they didn’t tell anybody about it lets you know that they knew what they were doing was untoward, and they wanted to do it anyway.”
