Former Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn went scorched earth on new-inaugurated President Donald Trump following Trump’s controversial and frankly sickening decision to release all of the individuals who were in custody for crimes related to the violent, deadly January 6th Capitol insurrection, even including the ones who have been convicted of heinously violent offenses.
Dunn has already publicly admitted that he still suffers from post traumatic stress disorder as a direct result of defending the nation’s Capitol building and those inside it on January 6th, 2021, in what has since been referred to as “likely the largest single-day, mass assault of law enforcement officers in our nation’s history.”
Today, Dunn sat down with CNN’s Jim Acosta, where he said, “Man, I’m just so frustrated with everybody’s indifference and apathy leading up to this.”
Despite all of Donald’s promises to lower grocery and gas prices and make overall life “greater” for the American people, one of the very first orders he signed into effect on his very first day back in office was to pardon all 1,500 of the criminals and defendants who were involved in the violent Capitol attack.
This move was met with push back even from some of Trump’s own people, including his Attorney General Nominee Pam Bondi and his own Vice President J.D. Vance, both of whom opined that at least the violent offenders should be held accountable for their crimes.
However, according to a White House advisor who spoke with Axios, “Trump just said: ‘F— it: Release ’em all.'”
Acosta asked Dunn during today’s segment, “Does the government need to provide protection to certain members of the Capitol Police Department who were assaulted that day, D.C. Police Department who were assaulted that day, and are now worried that now that these people have been released, that they pose a danger to those officers?”
“As you know, Harry, there have been relatives of some of these rioters who turned them in. One has to assume that those family members who turned in their relatives because they were involved on January 6th, that they have to be fearful,” the CNN host continued, asking the former Capitol police officer, “Doesn’t the government need to do something about this?”
“Sure, those are all valid concerns,” Dunn responded. “And, yeah, one would think, right, that these people, when they testified or these witnesses that gave information, they did it to help the government. So why not the government should help them? Every case, I guess, is different, you know, depending on what people want and how people feel and their safety. But, I think, isn’t that the job of the Justice Department, isn’t that the job of the president to protect their citizens, to protect those who stand up for what’s right for American People?”
“But, Harry, the president is now Donald Trump,” Acosta pressed. “What is your message to him after he’s done this?”
“The same thing it’s been for the last four years — you’re wrong!” Dunn shouted in response. “You’re wrong, and you should be ashamed of yourself!”
Harry Dunn, along with his fellow officers who defended the Capitol on that fateful day, was awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal from Joe Biden in 2023.
