If the American people weren’t terrified before, they certainly should be now, as a brutal new report from Rolling Stone now claims that tech billionaire and DOGE head Elon Musk is now set to take a catastrophic wrecking ball to the United States Social Security Administration — a move that could serve to cut off beneficiaries from the money they rightfully earned and are owed.
The unsettling new report claims that Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiancy has already “shuttered at least 10 Social Security field offices in as many states” and “has eliminated the SSA’s Office of Transformation, a department whose work included making it easier for Americans to apply for and access benefits online — the exact service many people will need now that offices are being closed across the country.”
To make matters that much worse, Rolling Stone also found that the federal employees who once managed the official Social Security website have already been dismissed from their positions in the Musk/Trump mass firings that have been taking place across countless key government agencies in recent weeks. That move only serves to increase the likelihood that beneficiaries who attempt to access the Social Security website in search of information regarding their benefits will be met with a whole lot of nothing.
One anonymous inside source, described as someone “close to the Social Security Administration,” spoke with the publication and said that there doesn’t even seem to be any discernable method behind Musk’s slash-and-burn mass-firing madness. That same source believes that all Musk will truly accomplish with this effort is making the Social Security Administration in the US run even worse.
“I don’t think any of it makes any sense,” the anonymous source explains. “I think that they’re just doing things to intentionally create chaos and fear, of making drastic changes for the sake of drastic changes and chaos.”
These drastic and senseless cuts will directly affect low income and disabled individuals across the country who have little to no access to ability to use technology and have heavily relied on the staff within the SSA to help them collect the benefits that they quite literally rely on to stay alive — many of whom, ironically enough, are devout MAGA supporters.
During his 2024 presidential campaign, Donald Trump publicly vowed to keep his hands off Social Security benefits for Americans. However, there’s no denying that Donald Trump has proven that he is not a man of his word. Further, it’s worth noting that he said nothing when it came to making the SSA so complicated and unusable that it’s nearly impossible for anyone to collect those benefits.
