CNN political analyst Mark Preston said the quiet part loud this week when he noted that President Donald Trump appears to be openly, publicly, and “clearly” launching threats towards his own Cabinet officials to stay out of Telsa CEO and DOGE head Elon Musk’s way, as he effectively takes a wrecking ball to the United States federal government.
Preston’s unsettling observation came during his recent interview with CNN host Sara Sidner, where he noted that President Trump’s first attempt to shut down the United States Agency for International Development actually just looks a whole lot like the first brick to tumble in a much wider, much more catastrophic attack against the US federal government as a whole.
“I think this spells trouble, because this is going to be the first step in really Donald Trump successfully dismantling the government,” Preston said in the recent interview. “Now, everything that he does try to do, Sarah, is not going to be successful, but in this first step, he appears to be successful.”
The political analyst then cited footage from Wednesday’s White House cabinet meeting, where we saw Trump Administration Cabinet officials sit with forced smiles on their closed mouths as X owner Elon Musk talked up his plan to initiate even more mass firings across countless key government agencies.
“Look at them all, just clapping and smiling and thinking to themselves… ‘We better get on board,'” referencing the disturbing video of the Trump Cabinet meeting. “You know, it’s very interesting. Donald Trump not only issues directions through social media, he also issues his threats to his own people in public, and that’s clearly what we saw yesterday.”
