California Governor Gavin Newsom took his ruthless trolling of President Trump to a new level today, when he publicly mocked the 79-year-old president over his apparent inability to close an umbrella all by himself.
“America’s Favorite Governor” has maintained a blazing target on the president’s back for months now, seemingly making it his personal mission to finally give Donald J. Trump a true taste of his own medicine.
Now, a clip has gone viral across social media, showing President Trump boarding Air Force One with an open black umbrella in hand and seriously struggling to close it as he attempted to enter the presidential plane in the blustery Maryland weather, ultimately getting an aide to help him close the umbrella up before going inside.
Obviously, Newsom wasn’t about to pass up the chance to offer his own commentary on the embarrassing umbrella moment, while wittily connecting it to President Trump’s ongoing government shutdown.
“The only thing Donald Trump can keep open these days is an umbrella,” Newsom captured the clip of Donald’s clumsy umbrella faux pax, posting it to his 2.7 million and counting followers on X.

The umbrella ordeal was undoubtedly embarrassing for Donald, but, believe it or not, his decision to get an aide to help him close the simple device was a marked improvement to a similar incident in 2018, when he decided to quite literally just dump his open umbrella on the stairs and make it someone else’s problem entirely, rather than even attempt to close it himself before entering Air Force One.
Donald Trump’s current government shutdown is now into its 13th day, with no real end in sight, and Newsom, who’s recently been touted as a 2028 Democratic presidential hopeful, has no intention of allowing the current president to live it down.
Trump and his Republican cronies — who now quite literally own and control every single branch of the United States government — continue to try like Hell to blame this shutdown on the Democrats. However, recent and brutal new polls have confirmed that, despite Trump and the GOP’s best shot, the majority of Americans believe that the blame for this ongoing shutdown lies solely at the feet of Republicans.
