As if Trump’s push to take Greenland weren’t bad enough already, a Republican lawmaker has now put forth a new bill that would serve to rename the Arctic island “Red, White and Blueland” if the US president is successful in his attempts to absorb the autonomous territory.
Donald Trump has harped on his intention to take over the Danish territory for what he claims are national security purposes multiple times in recent weeks, despite Danish officials making it crystal clear numerous times now that the sparsely populated territory is not for sale.
Nevertheless, Georgia Republican House Rep. Buddy Carter unironically introduced a new bill today called the “Red, White, and Blueland Act of 2025.” The New York Post reports that the act “directs the secretary of the interior’s team to ensure federal paperwork gets updated to the new name and gives a six-month deadline to complete that task.”
In a statement to the New York Post, Carter proclaimed, “America is back and will soon be bigger than ever with the addition of Red, White, and Blueland.”
“President Trump has correctly identified the purchase of what is now Greenland as a national security priority, and we will proudly welcome its people to join the freest nation to ever exist when our Negotiator-in-Chief inks this monumental deal,” Carter continued in his statement on his unhinged new bill.
New York Post goes on to report, “Secretary of State Marco Rubio has defended the president’s goal of taking Greenland by highlighting U.S. military support for the island territory and a 1951 treaty to defend it in the event of an attack.”
During a podcast interview, Rubio said, “If we’re already on the hook for having to do that, then we might as well have more control over what happens there. This is not a joke. This is not about acquiring land for the purpose of acquiring land. This is in our national interest and it needs to be solved.”
A new poll was recently commissioned by the Danish newspaper Berlingske and Greenlandic daily Sermitsiaq and found that just a measly 6 percent of Greenlanders are in favor of being absorbed by the U.S.
Rep. Carter laid it on a little thicker still when he took to social media with a post that read, “RT for Red, White, & Blueland,” complete with a drawing of the territory with a “USA” sign slapped over it:
